About Ju Jutsu

Ju-Jutsu is the third oldest of the Martial Arts, developed by both Samurai, and by the Yamabushi monks. {Mountain warrior priests}.

A fact is that Classical Ju-Jutsu, this is Ju-Jutsu before 1882, and prior to the effects of the Satsuma Rebellion in 1887, is a close quarter combat format second to none for practical use.

In the Classical format, which we teach, there are no punches as such, but open hand, edge, palm and slap techniques.

Kicks do not come above waist high, as high kicks take too long to deliver, and the balance is endangered the longer the leg is in the air.

Throws are similar to Judo and Aikido throws in the early stages, and the move on to the practical applications.

Ju-Jutsu is distinct in its teachings, there must be weapons skills taught, there must be an in depth knowledge of the Jintai Kyusho, the pressure points that can be pushed, by finger or knuckle pressure, and also on Atemi Waza, vital point techniques. These are the pressure points that can be struck, with hand or foot, to devastating effect.

Ju-Jutsu is similar to many Martial Arts and Ways, because most of them were derived from it.

Ju-Jutsu is a Martial Art, designed to function a an Art of war, in other words, to cripple, kill and maim.

BUT! That is NOT what the Art is ABOUT! The Art is about self discipline, control of one self, the situation, and the opponent, and the old Laws are like this, passed on to me, by my Sensei, who was the 29 th Master of his House.

Never hurt, when you can walk away, words hurt the feelings, but have no power over the body. Only react, if your honour, or your family's honour, is offended, or you, or a loved one, are endangered.

Never maim, when to hurt, would be enough, the capacity to be a human being, and show mercy, is at the heart of the warrior.

Never kill, when to maim would be sufficient, the most fleeting thing, and the most precious thing, is Life, which should only be taken at great need. And dead men learn no lessons.

To me the Art is not about thump and thud; it is about the development of the person, in body and in Spirit. But at the end of the day, it is an Art of War.

Ju-Jutsu shares its roots with AikiJu-Jutsu, which in turn, shares its roots with the Chinese Arts of War, and the Mongol, as well.

Today, most of the teaching is done in simple “tricks” which students can pick up very quickly, and this method of teaching has been found to be both fun, and also very practical.

Ju-Jutsu is a fine self defence format, with emphasis on self protection, from the very first lesson.
